⚡ Les trois questions qui choisissent le temps
| La question | Si oui | Exemple |
1. Un moment précis est-il donné ?
yesterday · last week · in 2018 |
PAST SIMPLE |
Yesterday I lost my keys. |
2. Le passé touche-t-il le présent ?
ever · never · already · yet · just · since · for |
PRESENT PERFECT |
I have lost my keys. |
3. Deux actions passées à ordonner ?
before · after · because · when |
PAST PERFECT sur la plus ancienne |
They had read the book before they
saw the movie. |
4. Une action longue interrompue ?
when · while |
PAST CONTINUOUS sur la longue |
Sally was sleeping when Myriam
called. |
impossible.
⚡ Les deux présents
habitude → present simple
en cours → be + -ing
It rains in November. (habitude)
Look! It's raining. (maintenant)
Le -s de he / she / it se cherche exprès à la relecture : on ne
l'entend pas.
Verbes d'état, jamais de -ing : be, have
(posséder), see (voir), like, love,
hate, know, seem.
⚡ Present perfect
have / has + participe passé
- since / for → commencé avant, encore vrai
- ever / never / before → expérience
- yet / already → pas encore fait
- just → tout juste arrivé
been ≠ gone — She has been to Argentina
(elle est revenue) · She has gone to Argentina (elle y
est encore).
Jamais avec une date. ✗ have gone in 2008 — ✔
went in 2008.
⚡ Prononcer le -ed
après un son sourd p k f s sh ch |
/t/ |
walked, stopped,
finished |
après un son sonore b g v z l m n r, voyelle |
/d/ |
used, called,
planned |
| après t ou d |
/ɪd/ +1 syllabe |
started, wanted,
loaded |
Le test de la gorge : ça vibre → /d/, ça ne vibre pas → /t/. C'est
le son qui compte, pas la lettre.
⚡ Modaux : trois interdits
- Pas de
to après. ✗ should to save
- Pas de
-s. ✗ he cans
- Jamais deux de suite. ✗ will can — ✔ will be able
to
can | pouvoir — capacité, permission |
must | obligatoire |
to
| Sauf… | Liste | Exemple |
| Préférence → -ing |
love · like · prefer ·
don't mind · be fond of ·
be keen on · be crazy / mad about ·
be interested in |
I like eating chocolate at night. |
| Après une préposition → -ing |
after · before · by ·
for · on · without ·
about · of · at ·
from |
He prevented us from speaking. |
Ceux qui changent de sens :
forgot to tell (pas fait) ≠ forgot
telling (fait, oublié) ·
stopped to talk (pour parler) ≠ stopped
talking (cessé) ·
tried to open (sans y arriver) ≠ tried
opening (comme solution).
Le raccourci utile : This server needs
restarting = needs to be restarted. Passif en quatre
mots de moins.
⚡ used to · be used to
used to + verbe nu |
avant, et ce n'est plus vrai
She used to travel a lot. |
be used to + -ing / nom |
avoir l'habitude, maintenant
She is used to cooking pasta. |
get used to + -ing / nom |
s'habituer, en cours
He's getting used to it. |
Négatif : I didn't use to like rap music —
Alors
le to est une préposition → -ing.
⚡ La voix passive
Actif : S + V + C
Passif : C + be + P.P. (+ by S)
The police arrested two men.
→ Two men were arrested by the police.
two men est pluriel, donc were.
the connection was refused, access is denied, the file has
been deleted.
⚡ Les quatre conditionnels
| Après if | Autre partie |
Exemple |
Zéro toujours vrai | present simple |
present simple |
If you heat water to 100 degrees, it
boils. |
Premier possible | present simple |
will + verbe |
If it rains tomorrow, we will go to the
cinema. |
Deuxième improbable | past simple |
would + verbe |
If I won a lot of money, I would travel
the world. |
Troisième impossible — le regret |
past perfect | would have + P.P. |
If I had studied, I would have passed
the exam. |
if (✗ if he would win) et un have oublié au
troisième (✗ I would recognize → ✔ I would have recognized).
Et l'exception : If I WERE you.
⚡ Les pronoms relatifs
| Après le trou il y a… | Fonction | Humain |
Non humain |
un verbe …who reported the incident |
sujet jamais effaçable |
WHO · that |
WHICH · that |
un sujet …(whom) we contacted |
complément effaçable |
WHOM · that · Ø |
WHICH · that · Ø |
un nom sans article …whose laptop |
possession |
WHOSE — pour les personnes
et les choses |
Virgules → which (relative explicative, supprimable) ·
pas de virgules → that possible (relative
déterminative, indispensable).
Le pronom zéro n'existe pas en français : The supplier we
contacted… = « Le fournisseur que nous avons contacté… ».
| 1 syllabe | bigger than |
the biggest |
| 2 et + | more tired than |
the most tired |
| en -y | sillier than |
the silliest |
| moins | less big than |
the least big |
jamais.
Les trois irréguliers : good → better →
the best · bad → worse → the worst · far →
further → the furthest.
⚡ Indénombrables : ni a, ni -s
information · advice · equipment ·
luggage · news · money · furniture · research
✗ an information, ✗ advices, ✗ equipments,
✗ a luggage, ✗ newses.
Déjà pluriels : children (✗ childs, ✗ childrens) et
people (✗ persons, ✗ peoples).
| How much + indénombrable | much · a little ·
a great deal of · a large amount of |
| How many + dénombrable | many · a few · several ·
a large number of |
⚡ Grammaire d'entreprise
responsible for |
responsable de — ce dont on s'occupe |
responsible to |
in charge of | = responsible for |
for regarde vers le bas (l'équipe),
to regarde vers le haut (le chef). Les deux peuvent
cohabiter dans une phrase.
⚡ Verbes irréguliers — les 30 les plus utiles
| Infinitif | Prétérit | Participe passé | |

write | wrote | written |
written, it was written).
